Yahui Qu

I’m a mathematics Ph.D. student at University of Wisconsin–Madison, where I’m fortunate to be advised by Hao Shen and Benedek Valkó. Previously, I obtained my B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. My email address is yqu45 at wisc dot edu. I expect to be on the job market in Fall 2027.

Research

I’m interested in Probability, especially

  • Random Matrix Theory: I work on problems about beta ensembles using the random operator approach.
  • Stochastic Partial Differential Equation: I apply regularity structures to nonlinear SPDEs related to quantum field theory problems.

Teaching

I was the instructor of Trigonometry in the Fall semester 2024. In addition, I have been the teaching assistant for courses including Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Discrete Mathematics, and Cryptography.

Awards

  • Bung-Fung Lee Torng fellowship, Summer 2025.

Outreach

  • I’m the president of the SIAM seminar at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Our seminar aims to provide young researchers in applied mathematics and related fields with a platform to share their work and explore interesting problems, while also helping mathematics graduate students build connections with professionals in technology, finance, and other industries.
  • I was a co-organizer for the Graduate Student Probability Conference, September 1-2, 2024.
  • I served as a graduate student mentor for the Madison Experimental Mathematics Lab during Spring 2024 and Spring 2025.
